Nestled amongst beautifully landscaped gardens on the headland between Dee Why and Curl Curl on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Delmar Private Hospital has been providing excellence in rehabilitation and surgery to the local community since 1973.

Delmar Private Hospital’s Rehabilitation unit offers programs aimed at maximising wellness for all patients requiring rehabilitation. These programs cater for both in-patients and those requiring outpatient, Day Only Rehabilitation programs.

The Rehabilitation ward has private rooms and ensuites available as well as shared accommodation, lounge area and courtyards in which to relax, not to mention the spectacular view up the northern coastline.
We encourage our patients to be involved in the planning of their care. The patients receive twice daily treatment from our experienced physiotherapists and they also see our occupational therapists and social worker regularly. Our Rehab Physician sees the patients regularly throughout the week and holds weekly Case Conferences to discuss progress to ensure that our patients achieve their goals.

Our rehabilitation facilities for both our in patients and our out patients include 3 well-equipped gyms (with fabulous views) as well as a sparkling hydrotherapy pool heated to 34 degrees Celsius. We also have consultation rooms, an Occupational Therapy Assessment kitchen and bathrooms. Our staff are highly skilled, patient-centred, caring professionals, working together to create a ‘home away from home’ ambience for our patients.

Day Rehabilitation programs allow our patients to continue their rehab after they are discharged from the hospital. Sessions run 6 days per week and we offer sessions from 7am through to 5pm during the week and 8:00am-3:00pm on Saturdays. To join our program, we just need a referral from your GP or surgeon and then you can contact us on 02 8978 5287.

Delmar Private Hospital caters for both inpatients and outpatients who require Rehabilitation.

Inpatient Rehabilitation

Following your joint replacement, or spinal surgery – either done here at Delmar Private Hospital or at another hospital, you may wish to continue your rehabilitation in our Rehab Ward.

Under the care of our inpatient Rehabilitation Physician, Dr Mark Haran,  our patients can continue to recover from their recent surgery or ill health, with the continuous care of our rehab nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and dieticians.

A typical day on the rehab ward would involve a session with the physiotherapists in the gym and another session with the physiotherapists in the hydrotherapy pool. The patients will be seen by the Rehabilitation Physician or our Resident Medical Officer and also by the social worker or Occupational therapist. Our Occupational Therapist will arrange to do a home visit if required to assess any need for aids in your home.

Case conferences are held weekly with all the Rehab team to discuss the progress and plan  the discharge home for our patients.

Once our patients are discharged from the Inpatient Rehab ward, they generally then progress to Day Only Rehabilitation.

Day Only Rehabilitation

Day Only Rehabilitation is a multi-disciplinary rehab program which helps you to regain your strength, independence and full function.

Patients need to be referred by their surgical hospital or their surgeon/ GP. An initial assessment is done with our physiotherapists and an individual Rehab plan is created in conjunction with the patient. All of the patients are also seen by our Outpatient Rehabilitation Physician – Dr Yang Guo. Apart from the costs for the initial consultation (may be claimed back from the health funds) the remainder of your rehabilitation is usually fully covered by your health fund. Your consultation with the Rehabilitation Physician and Case Conferences are bulked billed to your health fund with no out of pocket costs to you at all. This means there are no financial concerns and you are able to fully focus on getting back to normal.

Day Rehab includes 2.5 to 3 hours of therapy which may include some or all of the following:

  • Physiotherapy sessions in the gym
  • Physiotherapy sessions in the hydrotherapy pool
  • Dietician groups – nutritional information, weight management and healthy eating
  • Occupational Therapy groups – healthy lifestyle, relaxation and stress management.

Our Day Rehabilitation sessions run 8 times per day during the week (from 7am for those patients keen to return to work), and we operate from 8am to 1pm on Saturday mornings.
